Just like you, I have had trouble sleeping sometimes. No matter what I do, and despite turning everything off nothing seems to help. There is always something wandering on my mind. Believe me; I know the feeling. It is very annoying. Despite the tiredness, you simply can’t disconnect your mind. I will give you some tips to overcome this issue. I hope they help you as much as they have helped me.
A Relaxing Massage
When I get a relaxing massage, I end up sleeping like a baby. If you don’t have somebody to help you with it, you can do it yourself. Massage your feet with an essential oil, and you will feel instant relaxation. You will be sleeping in no time as when you were a little baby.
To enhance this trick, use a relaxing scent. I find coconut oil very relaxing, but you may have another relaxing scent. For example, my wife likes lavender when she wants to get some extra help for sleeping. Try different scents until you find your favorite sleeping aroma.
Download your Ideas
The other day I was sleeping at a hotel when I saw a small block on the bed side table. It had a one-line message printed on each page. I can’t remember exactly what It said, but it was inviting me to write what was on my mind before I prepared for sleeping. That was the first time I downloaded my ideas, and since then, I always have a small notebook at hand.
Give it a try and download your ideas. Get a pen and a notebook. You may think you have this amazing app for your cellphone, but it will not be as effective. The glow of your phone is not going to help to turn you into sleeping mood. The best is to do it the old fashion way, with a notebook. If the notes are worth digitalizing, do it first thing next morning.
The Soothing Bath
I don’t like bathing at night. A hot shower is my morning booster, and I will rarely take a bath. The only exception is when I feel I need to turn off my brain when my wife is not home to help with a relaxing massage. I turn on the bath tub with warm water. For me, a soothing bath is the best way to sleep when I am alone.
This is also one of my favorite methods while I am traveling. Since I usually travel alone, I end up at the bath tub at some point. The best of a soothing bath when I stay in a hotel is that I don’t need to clean the bathroom afterward. The hotel takes care of it, and I just relax and sleep like a baby. If you have troubles sleeping while you travel, give it a try, and you will not regret it.
Engage in Reading
I am a voracious reader, and I am not suggesting that reading is good to fall asleep. However, this is a good way to disconnect your mind from your daily activities. If you spare an hour before you go to bed reading, you will divert your thoughts into the plot of the book. Then, you will be able to sleep easily. I speak from experience because whenever I read, I have no problems sleeping.
A Hot Drink
Prepare a tea to help you relax before you go to sleep. The best is to have the hot drink one or two hours before you actually go to bed so that you don’t need to visit the bathroom in the middle of the night. My suggestions and preferred flavors for teas at night are chamomile and apple-cinnamon.
If you like your tea sweet, use some honey (my wife does that). You can use a hot drink to enhance your reading or before you take your massage or your soothing bath.
Add a Food Supplement to your Diet
This last advice is not meant to fall asleep when you have the problem, but to prevent you have troubles sleeping. You can go for a food supplement to complement your daily diet. Some of the supplements that will help you to fall asleep fast are:
- Any supplement that contains magnesium (200 mg) and calcium (600 mg).
- Hops supplements (doses from 30 to 120 mg should be enough).
- Wild lettuce supplements (doses from 30 to 120 mg is an excellent choice).
- Valerian root supplements (200 mg).
Each of these supplements is going to contribute to your overall health. In addition, they will help you to relax and catch sleep faster than now.
